New Road man charged with Drug Possession

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - HERE we go again! Another press release that emanated from the Public Relations Office of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is lacking context.

The press release, issued today (Aug. 23), states: “Dimitri Armantrading of New Road Housing Project has been charged for the offence of Possession of MDMA (Methamphetamine). He was formally charged on August 22nd, 2023 at the Stapleton Police Station, St. Peter’s, St. Kitts.”

This press release begs a number of questions:

1.When was Dimitri Armantrading found in possession of MDMA?
2.Was the drug found on his person?
    3.Where was the drug found?
4.Which Unit/Department took credit for the find?
5.How and when was the drug confirmed to be MDMA?

Over the past few months, the Police Force’s Public Relations Office has been disseminating information, via press releases, to media houses that not only lack context, but also the use of words and phrases that are not appropriate in explaining what transpired during a number of offences and incidents.

One such example is - “Man was shot multiple times to the body.”

Since he was shot multiple times, it simply means that the shooter did not miss his/her target. Therefore, there is no need to mention the word “body”, unless a descriptive account is given as follows: “He was shot multiple times - once to the head, twice to the abdomen and twice to the back.”
