BASSETERRE ST KITTS, 23 AUGUST, 2023: The story of the preparation of the twin island nation of St Kitts & Nevis for independence nearly 40 years ago will be shared by one of the founding Father’s of Independence, The Right Excellent and Right Honourable Sir Kennedy Simmonds, who was also the country’s first Prime Minister.
In an event titled The Road to Independence, the country’s only living National Hero, will share the details in a conversation-style format. The event which is opened to the public, will be held at the CUNA Headquarters in Fortlands on Monday 11th September, 2023 at 7:30pm.
“Not many people have been privileged to witness a firsthand account of such an historic event in their lifetime, as many only read about them in a history book. However, here is an opportunity for over 200 persons to capture this experience in person,” shared Mr. Val Henry, Chair of the organizing committee. “Thankfully technology will also afford Kittitians and Nevisians in the diaspora to experience this conversation via virtual means,” he added.
Sir Kennedy is one of the few leaders of the cabinet of the 1980’s who is still alive and is well placed to share the details with the nation. It is expected that students, teachers of history, historians and the general public will join invited guests to listen to this account as told by the nation’s first Prime Minister and only living National Hero.
Included on the evening’s agenda will also be poetry, in celebration of independence and the nation’s founding Prime Minister, as well as a short Awards Presentation. Attendees are encouraged to save the date for this once in a lifetime experience that they can share with future generations.
