BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AS the probe continues into the brazen robberies of RAM’s Supermarket outlets in Camps and Bird Rock, police have informed that the suspects they held in custody for questioned were released.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. on August 12,, four masked, armed assailants wearing hoodies had rushed into the Camps outlet of RAM’s Supermarket and robbed four of the cashier stations and a vault of a large sum of cash before fleeing the scene in a waiting car.
Approximately 85 minutes after, a similar strategy was employed in the robbery at the Bird Rock outlet, where four armed, masked assailants dressed in black clothing had entered the business establishment and stole a large sum of cash from the cashiers and a vault, and they, too, made their getaway in a waiting car.
In a press statement following a raid at the Timothy Beach Hotel in Frigate Bay on the evening of Thursday (Aug. 17), police had taken five persons into custody for questioning.
However, of the five taken into custody, only one of them was charge.
In an update yesterday morning (Aug. 26), Deputy Commissioner of Police Cromwell Henry said: “They were discharged pending further enquiries.”
The one who was charges is 23-year-old Kiaeem Carty of New Road. He was slapped with six charges in connection with two separate armed robberies, including the one at RAM’s Supermarket outlet in Camps.
Police had charged him with one count of Robbery, one count of Possession of a Firearm, and one count of Possession of Firearm with Intent to Endanger Life.
According to a police press statement, the incident had allegedly occurred on Wednesday (Jun. 21) at RAM’s Cash and Carry in Bird Rock.
Carty was also charged with one count of Robbery, one count of Possession of Firearm, and one count of Possession of Firearm with Intent to Endanger Life for the robbery committed on the Camps location.
Investigations into the robberies are ongoing.
