    Visit to Grove Park, rehabilitation work for improved facilities for local leagues as well as international games later this year
    Charlestown Nevis (February 20, 2006) Members of the Nevis Island Administration Cabinet used last Thursday afternoon to appraise themselves of the various on going government developmental projects in and around Charlestown.
    The developmental thrust is part of the Concerned Citizen Movement Administration to continue to provide better living for its citizens and residents. The Cabinet visited the extension project of the Charlestown Secondary School, the upgrade of Grove Park in preparation for international cricket later this year, the Senior Citizens Home which nears completion and the newly completed playfield at Ramsbury.
     
    Speaking to the Government Information Service, Premier, the Hon Mr. Vance Amory expressed satisfaction of what he had seen while visiting the Senior Citizens Home.  "We have come to visit the work in progress at the Senior Citizens Home," he said. "Looking at the design, looking at the work already completed, I believe we can agree that we will have at this facility a very modern but not only modern in terms of new but high quality service to provide for our senior citizens."

    The Nevisian Leader commended the Minister of Health for conceiving the idea and ensuring that the Administration implemented it.  "I think our senior citizens have done their part in looking after the people of this country and we ought to be able to provide for them comfortable surroundings that they can enjoy their days as they live their last days."
     
    Premier Amory pointed out that the facility would make a significant difference to the senior citizens and the way it would impact their lives, adding, "the way they would be able to enjoy themselves compare to what we had before (what was then the Infirmary) this is a long cry away from that and I think the people of Nevis are going to be very proud of this. They would be proud of their government as well for giving birth and making sure it becomes a reality," said Premier Amory.
     
    Visit to Senior Citizen Home which is housed at the Alexandra Hospital compound.
    The Minister of Infrastructural Development and Environment, the Hon Mr. A Michael Perkins also expressed his fulfilment of the projects.  He told the Press that when he campaigned for the Elections of 2001, one of his proposals was to see the Grove Park area and the Cultural Complex area upgrade and redesigned.  
     
    He said that the work is now on going and that he was quiet please that the Cabinet had put the necessary arrangements in place to have the work started. "I would look also to the other phase of the work which would be the actual construction of a new entertainment centre or performing arts centre which now gives us more scope to the actual redesign of what we have now at the Cultural Complex and once again look at the possibility of providing a permanent basketball facility for the island of Nevis."

    Minister Perkins took the opportunity to commend the Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as the Public Works Department for the comprehensive work being done at the Grove Park.  He also commended the ministry for looking at redesigning the road that goes through the Park from the Grove Park Range, which he noted would alleviate the flow of traffic as well as the movement of people.
