BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - POLICE have released more details on Saturday night’s shooting incident that left one dead and others asking when the current scourge of gun violence would end.
On Saturday (Sept. 9), the Federation recorded its 20th homicide for the year when the sound of gunshots were heard in the Buckley’s area.
Police said that between 11:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. officers of the Violent Crimes Unit received reports of gunfire heard in the Buckley’s area, and upon investigating they observed the body of 24-year-old Deondre ‘Bush’ Browne of New Road was lying motionless in the parking area of the movie theatres.
During their examination, officers found that Browne had received multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“Preliminary inquiries indicate that Browne had been walking in the parking lot when two armed assailants accosted him and opened fire.” police said in a media statement.
The Federation has recorded an upsurge in criminal activities for the year, including homicides.
In order to deal with the scourge, the Police Force, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Security, had implemented a number of measures to tackle the problem, which includes increased patrols in a number of hotspot areas.
