Artists concept of new Old Road Fisheries Complex |
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, FEBRUARY 21ST 2006 - A ground breaking ceremony will be held Tuesday afternoon to officially commence construction of the US$5.6 million Old Road Fisheries Terminal.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Housing, Agriculture, Fisheries and Consumer Affairs, Dr. Hermia Morton-Anthony will give Opening Remarks, followed by ICONS International Cooperation of Japan Representative, Mr. Mamoru Kondo and Old Road Fishermen's Co-operative representative, Mr. Todville Peets.
Addresses will also be given by visiting Ambassador of Japan to St. Kitts and Nevis, His Excellency, Shigenobu Kato; Parliamentary Representative for Constituency #4 and Minister of Health, Hon. Rupert Herbert and Minister of Housing, Agriculture, Fisheries and Consumer Affairs, the Hon. Cedric Liburd.
Colleen Fyfield is set to sing the National Anthem; Pastor Clancy Woodley, the Invocation, and Senior Fisheries Officer, Mr. Joseph Simmonds, the Vote of Thanks.
Since the initialing of the Exchange of Notes between Prime Minister Douglas and Ambassador Kato, banking, consultancy and construction documents have been signed.
Verification procedures, the pre-qualification process, opening of bids and final procedures for mobilisation and start of construction were also completed.
Construction of a fish landing area, office, meeting room, sanitary facilities, jetty, fuel facility, boat repair yard, slipway and lockers are part of the project.
