BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO young men have been slapped with attempted murder charges stemming from a shooting incident that took place a couple of months ago.

Late last week, this media house began hearing rumours which suggested that two Basseterre residents were arrested and charged with the October 19 attempted murder of Uttendale Whyte of Fort Thomas Road.

SKNVibes met Corporal Carl Greaux at the Sir Lee Llewellyn Moore Judicial and Legal Complex earlier this week and he confirmed that two persons were arrested and charged in relation to that incident.

Devon Ryan of Temple Alley was arrested and officially charged on November 22, 2009 with Whyte’s attempted murder and, following further investigations, officers arrested and charged Wayne Ible of Cayon Street on November 30 for the same offence.

Both men have since appeared before the Magistrate’s Court and remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.

The incident from which the charges arose occurred at about 2:00 p.m. (Oct. 19) at The Village.

A report carried by this media house on October 19, 2009 explains, “According to Henry [former Press and Public Relations Officer to the police], a police patrol was in the area when an officer heard the sound of gunshots. On investigation, two armed masked men were seen running in a southern direction along St. Johnson’s Avenue.

“Further investigations revealed that they had shot Uttendale Whyte of Fort Thomas Road in St. Johnson’s Avenue. However, the officers gave chase and Devon Ryan of Blue Belle Alley was shot in the vicinity of the Infirmary Road Millionaire Street while attempting to escape.”

Also explained in the report is that a 9mm pistol, five rounds of 9mm ammunition and a mask were found on Ryan’s person by the officers during the same incident.

The remanded duo now awaits the commencement of the preliminary inquiry during which a Magistrate will determine whether or not there is enough evidence to commit them to stand trial at the High Court level.
