BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MANAGEMENT of Ma Pau, located at Port Zante, has launched its night club which will be opened to the general public on Thursday and Saturday nights.

On Thursday evening (Dec. 3) there was a special opening of the club and music was provided by Lights Out Band and DJ Xclusive. Sean Clarke, General Manager of Ma Pau said that the free opening was to allow persons to see what the club’s atmosphere would be like.

“We are going to have drink specials, something we will continue doing every weekend, on Thursday and Saturday nights, and we’re also going to have themed parties. So every week we try to do something different,” he said.

“We also have a lot of events booked for the month of December.” “We are having a red party with an international act. We’re also going to have acts from Nevis and St. Kitts; it’s our first theme party and we have decided to host it under a ‘Red’ theme,” he said.

Clarke said that he and his team assessed the night life in St. Kitts and thought that having club nights on Thursday and Saturday would be ideal.

“I don’t know how the trend would be of people coming to the club on a Thursday night and having to work on a Friday, but in Trinidad it is very different. We party any day of the week in Trinidad then go to work the next day,” he said. “So I don’t know how that would fit in here, but if we have to make changes we would incorporate a different night.”

Tonight (Dec. 5), the night club will be swinging with the Kollision Band and DJ Xclusive and admission is free. Clarke, who has been Manager since June 2009 and hails from Trinidad, said that Ma Pau is an experience that he wants people to come out and enjoy.

“It’s a different night life in St. Kitts. I know we have the strip, I know we had several clubs before, but it’s (Ma Pau) just something different we trying to create…a better atmosphere for people,” he said.

He said that on Sunday, December 13, there would be a Wine and Jazz event and two international acts from Trinidad would be performing on that night.

“This will be an ongoing venture every month,” he said. “It does well in Trinidad, so we are trying it here and, of course, to incorporate it with the culture of St. Kitts.”

Clarke also said that another exciting venture to look forward to is the Mega Bucks Promotion where the finals will be drawn in January.

He said the drawing would be televised and someone could win a total of EC$500 000.

“So that is something I’m looking forward to,” he said. Clarke said there would be a cover charge for the club once it is operating and the price may be around EC$15. He also said there is a strict dress code in effect.

“No sleeveless shirts on the males, no sneakers, no slappers and no baggy pants,” he said. “The whole purpose of Ma Pau is to create an atmosphere of fun, excitement, relaxation and a home away from home.”
