BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AN officer of His Majesty’s Prison was charged on Tuesday (Nov. 21) for allegedly taking a quantity of Cannabis Sativa into the correctional institution.
A press release from the Public Relations Office of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force stated that Tristan Johnson of Market Street, Basseterre was charged for the offence of Conveying Contraband, to wit Cannabis, into His Majesty's Prison (HMP).
Johnson allegedly committed the offence on Monday (Nov. 20).
This publication learnt that he was suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
Offences of this nature are prevalent in many territories within the Caribbean region, and this is not the first occurrence at HMP.
A few years ago, an individual was caught throwing contraband over the prison walls from a window at the upper flat of the Basseterre Police Station.
On Thursday, April 21, 2016, two inmates, Travis Clarke and Seleam Chiverton, were charged for taking contraband into the caught correctional facility for the purpose of trafficking.
It was learnt that they were charged with Possession of Cannabis Sativa with Intent to Supply, Conveying Tobacco into Her Majesty’s Prison, and Conveying other prohibited articles including a number of cell phones, portable chargers and lighters.
