One jailed, one on bond for drugs possession

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THREE men appeared before Magistrate Simone Bullen-Thompson last Tuesday (Dec. 1) at the District ‘B’ Magistrate’s Court and were each convicted on their respective charges.

     

    Speaking today (Dec. 7) with Corporal Carl Greaux of the Criminal Investigation Department at the Sir Lee Llewellyn Moore Judicial and Legal Complex, he provided SKNVibes with details into the trial of the trio.

     

    Lenus St. Jules of Challengers Village was convicted and sentenced to eight months imprisonment after being found guilty of possession of cannabis with intent to supply. He was also sentenced to serve a four-month prison term for possession of cannabis and a further eight-month for cultivation of cannabis. These sentences are to run concurrently.

     

    Alex Bergan, also of Challengers Village, was charged for resisting arrest, possession of cannabis and escaping lawful custody. The first two charges were dismissed but he was found guilty on the latter.

     

    He was placed on a $15 000 12-bond of good behaviour and was charged by the magistrate to seek employment and to be enrolled in an education institution. He was also placed on a 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew.

     

    St. Jules and Bergan were arrested in Challengers Village following one of the ongoing operations being conducted by officers in District ‘B’.

     

    In the same court Leroy Boone of Sandy Point was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison until tomorrow (Dec. 8) when he has to answer to charges of breaking into a store and larceny from thereof.

     

    Meanwhile, on sister isle Nevis, two schoolboys appeared before Magistrate Yasim Clarke on Tuesday (Dec. 1) after they were found in possession of a quantity of cannabis and a knife.

     

    According to facts leading up to the case, on Wednesday, November 25 police were summoned to the Charlestown Secondary School, and on carrying out a search on the two schoolboys, both of them were found with cannabis in their possession.

     

    The one found with cannabis and a knife in his possession was fined $5 000 to be paid in three months or, if in default, 14 days imprisonment. This fine was for possession of cannabis, while he was also placed on probation to keep the peace for carrying abroad the offensive weapon.

     

    The other schoolboy was fined $800 to be paid in two months or he will have to serve one month in prison with hard labour.
