BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - MEMBERS of the Nevis Community Steel Orchestra are mourning the loss of one of their own who, while performing at last evening’s (Dec. 27) National Panorama Competition, collapsed onstage and subsequently died at the JNF General Hospital.

The Competition was held at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium  and, according to reports, the event had left those in attendance in a state of shock and prompted the St. Kitts & Nevis National Carnival Committee (SKNNCC) to express its “deep sadness”.

“A member of the Nevis Community Development Steel Orchestra, whose identity we are withholding out of respect for the family, experienced a medical emergency while performing at this event. Despite immediate medical attention and transportation to the hospital by ambulance, the beloved performer, sadly, did not survive,” the SKNCC said in a media statement.

Full details of the incident have not yet been provided, but the Committee said, “The entire SKNNCC, along with the steelpan fraternity and the wider community, is in mourning following this heartbreaking loss. We request that the privacy and sensitivity of the family be respected during this difficult time. In this moment of profound sorrow, we stand together as a community, united in our support, and extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fellow musicians of the Nevis Community Development Steel Orchestra.”

The male musician is been remembered as a supportive and friendly individual who had always placed people above himself.
