BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - POLICE are probing a shooting incident that occurred in Conaree Village that did not result in injuries to anyone, but raised more questions surrounding safety and security within the Federation.
According to law eforcement sources, at around 9:15 p.m on Friday (Jan 5), the sound of gunshots were heard in the Conaree area that allegedly resulted from a conflict among several young men.
Though no one was injured in the incident, police are said to have taken one individual into custody.
A magazine with a number of rounds was found by the police who were patrolling in the area and had responded to the scene.
This is the first major instance of gunplay reported by police for the year.
In 2023, the Federation reported 31 homicides, a number of shooting incidents with intent and other acts of violenence.
The Commissioner of Police, James Sutton, had recently told SKNVibes News that they would continue to apply pressure on those who are bent on causing disturbances in the Federation.
