BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - POLICE have identified the victim of Sunday’s (Jan. 21) shooting-death as 30-year-old Kelvin Millard of Upper Cayon.

Millard’s lifeless body was found in his vehicle in Cabbage Tree.

His death is the first homicide for the year and comes against the backdrop of the Federation reporting 31 for last year.

In its statement on the incident, the Police Force reported that between  3:00 a.m. and 4:00a.m. on the day in question, officers were summoned to the island main road in Cabbage Tree, Cayon,  where they discovery the lifeless body of Millard.

“He was pronounced deceased at the scene shortly thereafter,” the Police Force said in its statement.

Police revealed that Millard was accosted by “an unknown number of armed assailants while he was returning to his vehicle”.

According to the police, in an apparent attempt to escape the attack, Millard’s vehicle had collided with a flamboyant tree.

Concerns continue to be raised over the level of gun violence occurring in the Federation.

On the same day of Millard’s death, police revealed that they had removed two illegal firearms, a bullet proof vest and a number of assorted ammunition from the home of a male following a joint search operation.

Questions continue to be raised on how firearms and ammunition are making their way into the Federation undetected.
