BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A brazen Sunday (Feb. 4) afternoon shooting incident in College Street Ghaut, Basseterre has left one man dead, and questions continue to be asked over when the level of homicides will subside.
Dead is 24-year-old Jimmy Allen of Upper College Street, Basseterre, who reportedly received multiple gunshot wounds.
In their report to the media this morning, police said the incident occurred between 2:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., and initial investigations revealed that Allen was accosted by two armed assailants who exited from a vehicle and opened fire in his direction.
“He was struck several times about the body and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said in their statement.
This is the second reported homicide for the year and comes against the backdrop of the Federation reporting 31 homicides for last year, which is more than 2021 and 2022 combined.
Yesterday’s homicide continues to raise questions over safety and security as well as what more could be done to tackle the growing problem that plagues the territory.
