BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- As a family continues to mourn the senseless killing of Jermaine Greene, further information is now emerging regarding the young man’s tragic death.
Citizens and residents woke up to the heartbreaking news of Greene's passing on February 13, with police reporting the incident occurring around midnight.
In their initial assessment of the incident, which took place in Downing Street, Sandy Point, authorities stated that the event unfolded between 11:45 p.m. and midnight.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the 29-year-old Jamaican national was approached by an armed assailant while seated outside an establishment on Downing Street.
According to a police statement, Greene sustained multiple gunshot wounds and tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Greene’s untimely death marks the fifth homicide reported in 2024.
In response to the escalating issue, Commissioner of Police James Sutton addressed recent police academy graduates, emphasizing the utilization of the Seven-point plan outlined in the Strategic Plan 2023-2026 to combat crime and violence.
“We will work diligently towards achieving these goals, but we cannot do it alone. Collaboration is crucial,” Sutton stressed.
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, commenting on the current crime situation, highlighted the recent restructuring of the ELEVATE Programme as a proactive measure in addressing crime.
“We must provide our young men with the support they need. The ELEVATE Programme aims to offer genuine opportunities for reintegration into society. Our approach is informed by scientific data and input from specialists,” Drew explained.
