Security efforts strengthened with the addition of new vehicles

By: Staff Reporter,

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- IN an effort to bolster safety and security throughout the communities of St. Kitts and Nevis, the recent donation of vehicles to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is poised to significantly aid in the ongoing battle.

Dr. Terrance Drew, National Security Minister, emphasized the significance of this donation to the press, explaining that it aligns with the government's strategic agenda to combat crime and violence within the region.

“...with respect to the strategic plan of national security, part of it is to make sure that surveillance and, you know, coverage of the country is well enhanced. So that will allow the law enforcement officers to be more effective in terms of coverage in the communities and so forth,"Dr. Drew noted.

He added: " So with respect to the vehicles, it's mainly to make sure that law enforcement is effectively covering both islands, St. Kitts and Neve. That is why we made the investment."

In addition to this vehicle donation, substantial investments have been made in various facets of national security. Dr. Drew highlighted recent achievements, including the graduation of 26 new recruits, marking a significant milestone in law enforcement capacity building.

Furthermore, ongoing infrastructural developments, such as the construction of a two-story building at the training center and technological advancements, including the upgrading of city TV, are enhancing the operational capabilities of the security apparatus.

Acknowledging the integral role of neighboring jurisdictions, particularly Nevis, Dr. Drew affirmed the federal government's commitment to ensuring security across both islands, encompassing the funding of security forces on Nevis and strategic initiatives aimed at bolstering security infrastructure.

"We're not solely investing in the hardware of national security; our efforts extend to human resource development and social interventions aimed at addressing underlying security challenges. These vehicle donations signify a fraction of our comprehensive investment in national security, encompassing various facets such as equipment acquisition, infrastructure development, and expert support," Dr. Drew elaborated.
