The Cable’s JNF Lobby Makeover Moves a Step Further Towards Completion

By: The Cable, Press Release

BASSETERRE ST KITTS 20 MARCH, 2024 -- The Cable is pressing steadily towards the completion of the lobby makeover at the Joseph N France General Hospital in St Kitts. On Saturday 16th, crews of painters comprised mainly of its management and staff, along with several other stakeholders, were actively painting and preparing the designated areas in readiness for a possible mid-year handover.

The Cable’s Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Patricia Walters was excited to update the public on the vision behind the project saying, “We have dedicated this project to the people of St Kitts and Nevis as our 40th anniversary gift to the Federation. We hope that this project collaboration with other local partners will enhance patient experience and patient satisfaction through improved first impressions.” She noted that other participating stakeholders include TDC, Dreamworks Designs, Crown Prints, Vaughn’s Construction, Thomas Dune Architecture, Diane Angela Designs, and Isaacs Professional Services have contributed to the project.

Project Manager, Kluivert Blackman gave an overview of the project explaining that, as the first point of entry for patients and other users, The Cable and its partners wanted the design, layout, and aesthetics to play a role in alleviating anxiety, create a sense of wellbeing and guide patients to their destination with ease. To this end, the project will include two planter areas which can also double as seating and replacement of the current signage with larger more visible graphics. The navigation-friendly lobby will also include a directory at the entrance to give patients and users a greater sense of ease in getting around. New seats in the waiting area will also add to the comfort and enhanced patient care environment.

Over the course of the coming weeks, the wood cladding will be installed in the roof of the area and the lighting fixtures will be replaced to create a more tranquil ambiance. Overall, the thoughtful interior design will modernize the space to create a more welcoming and calming environment.

Saturday’s exercise received hands on support from Ministers of government and hospital personnel, including the Honourable Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew and Minister with responsibility for The Cable, the Honourable Konris Maynard.

Both Prime Minister Drew and Mrs. Drew, as well as Minister Maynard, rolled up their sleeves and assisted in priming and painting the walls of the lobby.

The project, which was first announced in November 2023 is a major part of The Cable’s social responsibility commitment to the health sector of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
