The price of flexibility!

Finance Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris
By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SINCE its establishment some seven years ago, SKNVibes has been operating as a privately-owned, independent and non-partisan media house. However, as it is with every media outlet, there is an editorial policy.

In the past, SKNVibes had limited the publication of press releases originating from political parties in the Federation and was labelled by both the ruling St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and the People’s Action Movement of being ‘in bed’ with the other.

This accusation gave rise to a number of discussions among management and representatives of the two political parties with the view of ‘clearing the air’.

Recently, since the political parties had stepped up their campaigns for the upcoming general elections, management, in an effort to provide proof of its non-partisan stance in St. Kitts and Nevis’ politics, offered all parties the opportunity to access this medium in publishing their unedited press releases. This decision has however proven to be a flexible step in the wrong direction.

It is from this backdrop that SKNVibes today (Dec. 10) published an article from PAM’s Secretariat dated December 9, 2009 and headlined “PAM welcomes Minister Harris’ decision to quit Labour Party should Douglas continue as Leader”.

An article which Dr. Timothy Harris called the sentiments expressed therein as “a complete fabrication, malicious in its falsehood”.
