Two Dead in separate shooting incidents in the Federation

By: Staff Reporter,

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- THE Federation awoke to distressing news on Sunday morning as two males were fatally shot, with another left injured, in two separate incidents between Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

In a press statement, the police reported that the first incident occurred at the Basseterre Bus and Ferry Terminal between 11:30 p.m. on April 6 and 12:00 a.m. on April 7.

Upon arrival, officers discovered 33-year-old Alex Harris of Challengers Village, St. Kitts, seated motionless in a chair. Initial investigations suggest that Harris was shot by a lone armed assailant. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the police reported that the second incident took place at a bar on Main Street in Parson’s Village, between 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on April 7.

Shortly after responding to the scene, officers found 37-year-old Rashiel James of Middle Island lying motionless on the ground. Preliminary investigations indicate that a single masked, armed assailant entered the establishment and opened fire. James and 30-year-old Leshawn Hazel of Main Street, Dieppe Bay, St. Kitts, both sustained injuries during the attack.

Police stated that Hazel was struck in one of his legs and was transported via ambulance to the Mary Charles Hospital in Molineaux, then to the Joseph N. France General Hospital in Basseterre, where he was subsequently warded.

According to the police, James succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
