Antigua and Barbuda struck by magnitude 5.4 quake

    ST. JOHN'S, Antigua – A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck the Caribbean Basin, impacting territories across the Eastern Caribbean chain of islands.

     

    The University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre reported that the quake's epicenter was located at latitude 16.85N and longitude 61.55W, at a depth of 10 km.

     

    Residents of Antigua and Barbuda, Guadeloupe, and Montserrat confirmed feeling the tremors caused by the earthquake.

     

    This latest quake is one of several experienced in the region over the past few days. On May 7, a magnitude 3.9 quake struck St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, and Grenada.

     

    On May 5, residents in two areas of Trinidad and Tobago and one area in Venezuela reported experiencing tremors from an earlier earthquake.

     

    On the evening of May 3, Trinidad and Tobago experienced another magnitude 3.6 quake, affecting Port of Spain, Arima, and San Fernando.
