BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- THE Federation continues to grapple with an uptick in incidents of shooting with intent, as another individual has sustained injuries in a recent shooting incident.
The police disclosed that they are investigating a shooting that occurred last evening (May 14) in Cayon, which left 34-year-old Devon Norford of Lover’s Lane, Cayon, with a gunshot wound to the back of his head.
According to the police, the incident took place at the victim’s home in Cayon, where investigations indicate that Norford was accosted by an armed assailant. In an attempt to escape the attack, Norford barricaded himself in a room within his home. He reported that after a short time, he exited the room and realized the assailant had fled the scene.
"He then stated that he notified the police and was shortly thereafter transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital, where he was treated and warded in stable condition," the police said in a media statement.
Over the last several weeks, the Federation has reported several homicides and numerous shooting incidents where individuals were either injured or escaped unharmed.
Several initiatives have been implemented to combat the problem, including a recently imposed 15-day gun amnesty period.
