Aniqua Walters, De Educator win Miss Sports Personality and Calypso crown

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ANIQUA WALTERS and Lequane ‘De Educator’ Desouza are the winners of the Dr. William Connor Primary School’s Miss Sports Personality and Calypso Show, respectively, held last evening (Dec. 11) at the school grounds.

     

    Walters, who was also Miss Golf and sponsored by Hon. Sam Condor, won the Creative Sports Wear and Best Talent segments of the show while first Runner-up Bibi-Fariza Dalloo, Miss Cricket and sponsored by Subway, captured the Best Speech, Best Evening Wear and the Miss Photogenic awards.

     

    Miss Football, Kaliyana Desuza, sponsored by the Police Sports Club and The Cable, took the Second Runner-up position while the Miss Amity award was given to Afia Beresford, Miss Basketball, who was sponsored by School’s Apex Society and Mario Wigley, Manager of The Police Co-Operative Credit Union.

     

    The other contestants were Miss Athletics, Jomilah Dunrod, sponsored by Dynamic Distributors and Dominoes, and Miss Netball, Aniyah Fagan, sponsored by the Haynes Smith Youth Club. De Educator captured the calypso crown with his tune ‘Forgive and Forget’ that was written by Newris Nital while the First Runner-up position went to Tahjaroh Stapleton, a.k.a. Fantastic Tahj, with ‘You Need Education’. Shane Clarke, a.k.a. De Dominic, was adjudged Second Runner-up with ‘I want to be’.

     

    The other calypsonians were Janiro Leander, a.k.a. Mighty J; Dejon Carty, a.k.a. Lil Rick; Travien Liddie, a.k.a. Mighty Woodley; and Calvert Hobson, a.k.a. Mighty Cally. Highlights of the night included the entrance on motorcycles by the Miss Sports Personality contestants along with the reigning queen Britney Liddie, who caused quite a buzz and excitement which could give the National Queen contestant’s fanfare a run for its money.

     

    The side show was filled with wonderful talents portrayed by Rollensha Henry, Kervin ‘Infamus’ Benjamin, Big Dwag, Konris Maynard, Okolo Tegremantine Dancers and Desi Brown.

     

    The house band for the night was d’Vybz while the hostess was Makeila Armstrong and the MC was Leroy ‘Billy’ Liburd.

     

    According to the organisers, the winners received a number of gifts and prizes including EC$200 each, and the winner and First Runner-up of the calypso competition would compete in the National Junior Calypso competition this month.
