SKN Stands with Grenada and SVG as Hurricane Beryl churns in Atlantic

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- PRIME Minister Dr. Terrance Drew has committed to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, standing with those territories impacted by Hurricane Beryl.

The storm has intensified and is now being described by meteorological officials as a major category 4 hurricane, bringing life-threatening storm surges.

As St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Barbados, and St. Lucia prepared for the impact, Dr. Drew informed that he communicated with his colleagues, Prime Ministers Gonsalves, Mitchell, Mottley, and Pierre of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Barbados, and St. Lucia respectively. He assured them that “St. Kitts and Nevis stands fully” with them.

The region has been bracing for an extremely active Atlantic Hurricane Season, which is expected to bring 17-25 named storms due to factors including the warm sea temperatures that will act as jet fuel for storm development.

The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) has been working to ensure that territories are adequately prepared for the hurricane season.

In its response to the potential impact of the storm, CDEMA on Sunday evening said it stands ready to assist territories as the region braces for its first major hurricane of the season.

“The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) Coordinating Unit and key partners stand ready to assist Participating States as the region braces for the first major hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season,” CDEMA stated.

According to CDEMA, during a Caribbean Development Partners Group (CDPG) meeting held on Sunday, over 166 partners from local, regional, and international agencies shared plans and preparations for Hurricane Beryl.

The CDPG was co-chaired by CDEMA’s Executive Director, Ms. Elizabeth Riley, and the UN Resident Coordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Mr. Simon Springett.
