BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- POLICE on Thursday( Jul. 17) announced that Patrick Howell Jr. has received a lengthy sentence in connection with the 2021 shooting death of Travis Clarke in Nevis, and several offences committed during the same year.
Howell Jr., 29, of Cane Garden, Nevis, appeared before High Court Judge His Lordship Patrick Thompson Jr. in the Nevis Circuit of the High Court on July 17, during which his sentences were handed down.
According to the police, Howell Jr. was initially charged on July 20, 2021, for the murder of Travis Clarke in Nevis, along with the offenses of robbery and larceny, all committed on July 16, 2021.
In a statement following the shooting incident back in 2021, police revealed that their investigations at the time indicated that Clarke, 36 at the time of the shooting, was sitting on a step in the Happy Hill Drive area when an armed assailant, later identified as Howell Jr., pursued him and shot him several times.
Despite his efforts to escape, police said Clarke eventually collapsed and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Additionally, the Police Force’s Public Relations Department reported that the armed assailant threatened a female driver who was also in the area and took possession of her vehicle, in which he made his escape.
In a statement published today, police provided details of the man's sentence, disclosing that Howell Jr. received 2 years imprisonment for larceny, 9 years for robbery, and thirty-four and a half (34 1/2) years imprisonment for murder. He was previously convicted for the offenses, police noted.
According to the police, "the sentences for larceny and robbery are to run concurrently with the sentence for murder, reflecting the gravity of Howell's crimes and their impact on the community
