CHARLESTOWN, Nevis -- A businessman became the latest victim of a robbery while paying his staff at a worksite.

According to the police, at around 2:30 p.m. on July 19, Callistus Couloute, a St. Lucian national residing in the Federation and owner of Carl’s Construction, was robbed at his worksite near Sea Food Madness in Pinney’s.

Initial investigations revealed that while Couloute was engaged in paying his employees, an unidentified masked individual approached him brandishing a firearm. The assailant demanded that Couloute surrender all his money, subsequently robbing him of a large sum of money, his cell phone, a black wallet containing additional cash, credit cards, and his driver’s license.

During the robbery, Couloute attempted to disarm the assailant, resulting in a struggle in which he sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm. He was transported to Alexandra Hospital, where he received medical treatment and is currently in stable condition.

The police have launched an ongoing investigation into the incident.

This robbery is part of a troubling trend of armed robberies in recent weeks, with several business establishments, particularly Asian-owned supermarkets, being targeted.
