BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — The Traffic Department is currently investigating an accident that occurred in Half Way Tree, resulting in the death of Zishawn Farrell of Fig Tree, Sandy Point.
The accident, which took place around 12:15 am on July 13, involved three vehicles: motor scooter PA 1982, a police vehicle, and motor pick-up R 64.
In a statement on Saturday (July 20), the Police Force explained that Farrell was riding motor scooter PA 1982 from Sandy Point towards Half Way Tree when he collided with the parked police vehicle and the motor pick-up along the Island Main Road in Half Way Tree.
According to the force, the police vehicle was parked while officers conducted investigations in the vicinity. Farrell attempted to overtake the parked vehicle and encountered oncoming traffic.
The police force stated that in his effort to return to his lane, “Farrell lost control of the scooter, resulting in a collision with the rear of the police vehicle.”
“The impact caused Mr. Farrell to be thrown over the pick-up, sustaining severe injuries to his feet, hands, and head,” the police noted in their statement.
Farrell was subsequently transported to the Joseph N. France (JNF) General Hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in critical condition.
After spending a week receiving care, Farrell remained unresponsive and passed away at approximately 4:00 pm on July 20.
An autopsy is expected to be performed to confirm the cause of death as police continue their investigation.
