By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- MERE hours after Commissioner of Police James Sutton reassured the public of efforts to provide a safe environment, the Federation recorded its 19th homicide when a female was gunned down in New Road.

At approximately 7:58 pm on Tuesday (Jul. 23), the police received a report of a shooting incident at New Road Housing. Officers were dispatched, and upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of Sandra Roberts, a 54-year-old resident of the area, lying in the road outside her home.

According to a police statement, preliminary investigations indicate that Roberts had just arrived home and parked her vehicle on an empty lot located on the eastern side of her residence. As she exited her vehicle and proceeded towards her house, she was confronted by two masked gunmen who emerged from nearby bushes and opened fire. Roberts sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her body and head, resulting in her death at the scene.

Four males have since been taken into custody for questioning.

The police have urged the public to take precautions as they seek to reassure that safety and security remain top priorities. In his statement, the Top Cop called for partnerships to ensure safety and security, stating, “We recognize that true safety and security are achieved not just through law enforcement but also through strong, collaborative relationships between the Police and the Community. It is with this spirit that I am reaching out to you today.”

He asserted, “Our Police Force is dedicated to implementing a comprehensive approach to crime prevention that includes increased patrols, community policing, and the use of advanced technology to deter criminal activity. However, we cannot do this alone. We need your help and cooperation.”

Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr. Terrance Drew, will be addressing the nation this evening from 8:00 p.m.
