BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — FOLLOWING a trial in the Appeals Court in Jamaica, dancehall superstar Adidja ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer and his co-accused have been set free in their murder case.
The judgment, delivered this afternoon, was met with joy by many supporters of the Jamaican artiste.
Vybz Kartel and his co-accused were released after the Court of Appeal ruled that they should not face a retrial for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.
The dancehall artist and three others were convicted of murder in late 2011. However, they appealed the decision and had their convictions upheld.
In March of this year, the Privy Council overturned the decision, sending the case back to the Court of Appeal in Jamaica to determine whether a retrial was necessary.
