BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- The Federation’s first athlete to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, will do so Thursday morning in the pool. Troy Nisbett, the young national swimmer, will dive into action at 5:16 am in the Men’s 50m freestyle event.
Nisbett is one of three representatives from the Federation to the Paris Games who received their ticket through the Universality Placement.
During a media engagement with journalists in St. Kitts, National Coach Joames Weekes confirmed that the young man has been training in several territories to gain recognition and pool time ahead of his race.
“As the Olympics got closer, we were in Barbados so that he could get more orientation in a pool environment,” the coach stated.
Nisbett, 15, is participating in his first Games but is no stranger to international competition, having competed in the World Championships despite training in the Caribbean Sea with no pool time.
Weekes noted that the young man is calm and waiting for the meet, and he is hopeful that Nisbett will go into the race with the same composure.
Meanwhile, Weekes acknowledged that the young man has been making significant strides in climbing the ranks of competition.
