BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- TWENTY-eight-year-old Shaquille Liburd has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for the 2019 murder of Constance Thompson, which occurred on April 29 in Conaree.
According to reports, Thompson, 77, suffered multiple stab wounds that led to her death. The police reported that at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2019, they were alerted to a body found in a house in Conaree Village.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Thompson's motionless body in the living room of her home, with multiple stab wounds. Liburd was taken into custody to assist with the investigation.
He appeared before the High Court and, on December 22, 2023, was found guilty of murder. On Friday (Aug. 2), he was sentenced to sixty years in prison, with time served on remand being counted. He may be eligible for a remission of one-third of his sentence for good behavior.
The police stated, “These sentences reflect the commitment of the judicial system to uphold the law and ensure justice is served.”
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force commended the efforts of all officers involved in resolving the case and reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and security of citizens.
