BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — POLICE have announced that during an operation on the South East Peninsula, officers recovered a firearm and matching ammunition.
In a media statement, the police force explained that this operation was part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of travelers heading to Nevis for the August Monday festivities.
“During a routine stop and search, one firearm with matching ammunition was recovered, leading to several arrests,” the social media statement read.
The police force has intensified screening efforts in response to the recent rise in crime and violence in the Federation, which has seen 22 homicides this year.
To address this issue, the police continue to conduct stop and searches and increase patrols.
