King Konris is asking people to ‘Take the Oath’

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – NATIONAL Calypso Monarch Konris Maynard has made his contribution to National Carnival this year by releasing a new song entitled ‘Take the Oath’.

The four-peat reigning Calypso Monarch of St. Kitts and Nevis had stated three months ago that he would not be defending his crown in the 2009/2010 National Carnival Calypso competition.

Maynard however stated that he would continue to make his contribution to National Carnival and also perform on Carnival shows.

According to Maynard, the song is saying that no one is allowed to jam during Carnival without taking an oath to love the country and to always be there to care and put the country first. The song says, “For this Carnival I want to see you raise your hands up to the sky…it’s time to take an oath so that no more young souls will die…”

Maynard told SKNVibes that he was fed up of hearing about the senseless killings in the country and wanted to create a song with a strong message, and also one that could be entertaining and used on the road during Carnival.

The song is lyrical strapped with positive words and an up-tempo beat, as the singer is asking people to raise their hands in the air and take the oath.

The song was officially released last Saturday (Dec. 12) on ZIZ Radio with Ronnie Rascal. In terms of the song being a possible contender for the Road March, the Calypso King said anything is possible.

“I don’t want to say that I will be contending the Road March, if the people like it they can jam to it. We’ll just see how it goes,” he said. Maynard said that he would be releasing information where persons could get a copy of the song.
