CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – A sum of $4 000 in fines was handed down at the District “C” Magistrate Court, Nevis to persons convicted of the charges brought against them.

Before presiding Magistrate, Her Worship Yasmine Clarke, four men appeared to answer charges of “possession of controlled drugs”, “possession of an offensive weapon” and “battery”.  All opted not to waste the court’s time and pleaded guilty to the charges and were convicted and fined.

Liburd’s offence was committed on December 10, 2009 and Tweed’s was committed on December 2, 2009. According to information reaching this media house, Tweed was found to be carrying the illegal substance having been searched at the Charlestown Pier after disembarking a ferry.

Craddock Road resident Glenroy Clarke was issued a $1 000 fine to be paid within three months or, in default, serve six months imprisonment for his involvement in a “possession of an offensive weapon” offence. Information gathered by this media house indicates that on December 12, 2009, Clarke was stopped and searched and a knife was found on his person.

Vaughn Browne, a Cades Bay resident, was ordered to pay a $500 in one month or, in default, spend one month at Her Majesty’s Prison. On October 11, 2009, Browne beat Alphonse Daniel at Geothermal Bar in Westbury which resulted in him being charged.
