Flow awards financial scholarships to 12 first-time high school students across the Federation

By: Flow, Press Release

Basseterre, September 6th, 2024: Twelve (12) primary school students who are set to begin their high school journey this month have received financial relief from telecommunications giant, Flow. Each scholarship recipient will receive funds to cover the cost of textbooks, uniforms, and examination fees throughout their high school journey, as well as their tenure at Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) and the Nevis Sixth Form.

Flow Saint Kitts and Nevis hosted an induction ceremony under the theme, ‘Bridging the Gap: 36 Years of Youth Empowerment and Investment’, at the Solid Waste Management Corporation Conference Room earlier this week. The event included previous and current Flow scholarship winners, parents, representatives from the Ministry of Education, and Flow.

Flow Country Manager, Lorraine Mitchell remarked, “Over the past years, our company has invested into the lives of hundreds of students and by extension their families. This scholarship is an investment in our young boys and girls who will one day lead our nation and its industry.”

This year’s Flow Scholarship Recipients include Zarique DeCosta and Hazanie Hull of the Basseterre High School; Mahsiah Matthew and Demeka Benjamin of the Washington Archibald High School; Amoliyah Ross and Te-Jani Thompson of the Charlestown Secondary School; Sharielle Thomas and Shakecia Hobson of the Gingerland Secondary School; E’Jorn Nisbett of the Saddlers Secondary School; Jaimar Alford of the Charles E. Mills Secondary School; Gyron Douglas of the Verchilds High School and Gervana Clement of the Cayon High School.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Lisa Pistana declared, “Flow has been a longstanding corporate partner, and the Ministry of Education cannot do it alone. We are always grateful to our corporate partners, so to Flow, we say to you, thank you for recognizing the needs within our community. Thank you for understanding the importance of being a part of the process of transforming education in Saint Kitts and Nevis, and for standing firm in this commitment over the past 36 years”.

The feature address was delivered by Mrs. Eisha Jackson, educator and immediate past principal of the Charles E. Mills Secondary School (C.E.M.S.S) and a 1993 Flow scholarship recipient. “I often ask myself, where would I have been without the support of Flow. My mother was a factory worker, a single parent with six (6) children, so affordability was not a luxury for my family,” Mrs. Jackson reflected.

The Scholarship Program is part of Flow’s commitment to the advancement of youth in the Federation. The company continues to award scholarships based on financial need, outstanding academic achievement and good moral character. “Thanks to Flow, I vividly recall having all my school supplies, unlike my five (5) siblings, and I felt ‘big’ when I could wear that nice Van Heusen shirt to school. I felt sharp, confident and ready to take up space in society,” Mrs. Jackson recalled.

Eisha ended her reflection by speaking directly to the new cohort of Flow Scholars. “Nothing in this world is free. You have a responsibility to produce grades that are worthy of maintaining Flow’s investment in you.”

Flow congratulates the 2024 awardees and wishes them success in their future educational pursuits.
