Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, shared with students at the Saddler’s Primary School that education plays a crucial role in the development and progress of a nation.
“We believe that education is critically important to advance our people so that ten, fifteen or twenty years from now, you who are the students of Saddler’s and the students around the entire country, will be proud to represent us in our older years, as you become the ministers of government and we become retired citizens,” the senior minister stated during the traditional Cabinet Schools Visits, which began on September 05, 2024. “That’s why education is important. That is why we say you must prepare yourselves for the future ...”
Dr. Douglas highlighted that the education landscape in the Federation is being transformed with new initiatives designed to ensure that local students are as competitive as their peers around the globe.
These changes bring a fresh wave of innovation to learning such as utilising smart learning tools in the classroom, revamping aspects of the primary and secondary school curricula, introducing groundbreaking courses at the C. F. Bryant College, expanding scholarships for higher education and technical training, and establishing additional partnerships with top regional and global universities.
“Education is critical to the survival of our independent country and you, our citizens, must understand that you have a role to play,” said Dr. Douglas.
Prime Minister the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew praised the principals, teachers and support staff at various schools across St. Kitts and Nevis for their dedication and tireless efforts in nurturing the nation’s children. He emphasized the significance of the country’s sovereignty some 41 years ago (September 19, 1983) and challenged the students to dream big and work diligently to accomplish their aspirations thereby adding to the celebration of national achievements.
