BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — The 9-year-old boy who was bitten while swimming at Frigate Bay Beach remains hospitalized.
Police confirmed that the child, who is currently being treated in the pediatric unit at the Joseph N. France General Hospital, is stable.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Cromwell Henry confirmed that the injury is "serious", noting that the boy did not lose any body parts in what is suspected to be a shark attack.
The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon (Sept. 16). The child, whose identity has not been released due to his age, was rushed to the hospital with bite marks on his arm, which are consistent with an attack by a "marine animal".
As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities are actively monitoring the area around Frigate Bay to assess any potential risks in the waters. The public is being urged to exercise caution when swimming or participating in water-related activities.
