BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — THE Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has confirmed the presence of psychedelic drugs and ecstasy within the Federation, though they emphasized that these substances are not widely circulated.
This comes amid growing concern that such drugs are being used within the Federation, including by teenagers. Sources told SKNVibes News that there may be a developing market for these products across the territory, which has prompted renewed discussion on the issue.
SKNVibes News sought clarification from the police, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Cromwell Henry explained that while there have been suggestions about the circulation of ecstasy and other psychedelic drugs, the police have not found substantial evidence to indicate a widespread market for these substances in the country.
Regarding ecstasy, DCP Henry noted that the police had seized pills in the past, but they were primarily linked to adult entertainment venues. He also stressed that no significant discoveries of other psychedelic substances have been made. However, he stopped short of confirming whether these products are still in circulation.
When asked by SKNVibes News whether any incidents had been reported involving teenagers or schools in connection with these substances, DCP Henry stated:
"At this time, no drugs of this nature, including ecstasy, have been found in schools, nor have there been any specific incidents reported involving teenagers in connection with these substances. The police remain vigilant and collaborate closely with schools to ensure that our youth are protected from exposure to illicit drugs."
SKNVibes News also inquired about arrests related to these drugs and whether there is any suspicion of local production. DCP Henry responded:
“There have been isolated arrests related to the possession and distribution of ecstasy, but there is no current evidence to suggest that these substances are being produced locally”
