BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — AS the Federation celebrates 41 years of Independence, congratulations have been pouring in from around the world, with the United States and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) joining the celebrations.
US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, in a brief message to the Federation, sent his warmest greetings to the people and government of Saint Kitts and Nevis. He highlighted the bond of friendship between the two countries, emphasizing shared objectives of democratic principles, safety, and security.
“The enduring bond between the United States and Saint Kitts and Nevis reinforces our common objectives for economic prosperity, resilient democratic institutions, and increased public safety. Our collaboration through various initiatives, such as the U.S.-Caribbean Partnership to Address the Climate Crisis 2030 (PACC 2030) and the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI), is aiding in mitigating the climate crisis, enhancing access to clean energy, and bolstering security in Saint Kitts and Nevis and the broader region," Blinken said in the statement.
CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett, in her message to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, reminded them that Independence serves as “a resounding call to commemorate collective accomplishments and forge an even stronger, more unified twin-island Federation.”
She also acknowledged the Federation's contribution to the regional integration process, noting that “CARICOM has greatly benefitted from the commitment of the Government and the people of the Federation. Notably, St. Kitts and Nevis continues to be a strong and unwavering supporter of regional progress in Human Resource Development, Health, and HIV/AIDS.”
As St. Kitts and Nevis celebrates its Independence with pride, enthusiasm, and renewed vigor, the Community honors the country’s achievements and extends best wishes for the continued advancement, prosperity, and well-being of its people.
