    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, FEBRUARY 27TH 2006  - Lancashire Cricket Club's tour of St. Kitts and Nevis has been planned as part of the strategy of the St. Kitts Ministry of Tourism to develop sports tourism as a viable sector in the tourism industry and the national economy.

     

    So says Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture, Sen. the Hon. Richard "Ricky" Skerritt.

     

    "We are working closely with the St. Kitts Cricket Association and Cricket World Cup (St. Kitts and Nevis) Ltd., to ensure that cricket development aspect of the tour is fully realised," Minister Skerritt, a former West Indies Cricket Manager, told the Communications Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister on Monday.

     

    The English club is to spend two weeks in the St. Kitts, as guest of the St.

     

    Kitts Ministry of Tourism, as part of their preparations for the 2006 season. Matches will be played against Nevis and St. Kitts National Teams on both islands. At least two matches will be played at the new Warner Park facilities being constructed for Cricket World Cup 2007 with finacing by the Republic of China on Taiwan.

     

    The squad are flying out to St. Kitts on March 18 and are playing six matches before returning on April 1 as they get ready for their return to the top flight of the Liverpool Victoria County Championship.

     

    Lancashires cricket manager Mike Watkinson said: "Our training has been very intensive so far and this tour gives us the opportunity to play some competitive cricket as well as utilise the excellent practice facilities in St Kitts."

    March 20 v Nevis (Nevis)

     

    March 22 v Newtown CC (Molineux)

     

    March 24 v Presidents XI (Molineux)

     

    March 26 v St Kitts (Molineux)

     

    March 28 v St Kitts (Warner Park)

     

    March 30 v St Kitts (Warner Park)
