BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, December 17, 2009 (Labour Secretariat) - The St.Kitts/Nevis Labour Party candidate for Constituency #5, a Cuban- trained medical practitioner, Dr. Norgen Wilson refuses to set up a private practice so that he can provide free health care services for the people of Sandy Point and Fig Tree.

Dr. Wilson, who has repeatedly stated his position on the matter at public meeting of the party, sees his refusal to operate from a private office as a genuine contribution made, so that he may carry out his civic and humanitarian duty to see to the betterment of his fellow constituents.

“I have been constantly offered to run a private practice and I refused it because if you are sick and I could nurse you back to health or I could help save your life, I can’t see myself charging you for that service,” he said.

Upon returning home three years ago, Dr. Wilson made a special request to work in his constituency.

He is presently the District Medical Doctor and works at the Pogson Medical Centre.

Dr. Wilson sees himself as a representative for the youths and is ever-grateful for the opportunity that he had been afforded to study medicine in Cuba through the initiative of a visionary Labour Party Administration headed by a people-oriented Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Denzil L. Douglas.

“The Labour Party is for the ordinary man and woman and that is exactly what I saw myself as. A very ordinary person who was given an opportunity through this Labour Administration and so my intentions being with the Labour party is to help people to achieve what I have achieved or what they want to achieve for themselves,” Dr. Wilson said.

The Labour Party candidate said it isn't that he had some deep desire to enter into politics, but that in order for him to be able help his people, community and ultimately the country, he sees politics as the vehicle that would take him there.
