By: SKNIS, Press Release

Manhattan, New York, September 23, 2024 (SKNIS): St. Kitts and Nevis was prominently represented at the official launch of the Afreximbank Africa Diaspora Centre at The Africa Center in Harlem, New York, on Monday, September 23, 2024, by Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas. The event marked a significant step toward strengthening the connection between Africa and its diaspora.

Hosted by Afreximbank in partnership with The Africa Center, the launch showcased several initiatives aimed at fostering deep and sustainable ties between Africa and its global diaspora. A key message from the event was the aspiration for this Centre to serve as a vital link for cultural and economic growth, as well as an educational space that emphasises Africa’s rich history, extending beyond the narrative of slavery.

Dr. Douglas, presence reaffirmed the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis’ commitment to supporting efforts that promote stronger cultural, economic, and historical relations between Africa and its diaspora communities.

Distinguished speakers, including Professor Dr. Benedict Oramah, President of Afreximbank, emphasised the Centre’s potential to drive commercial and knowledge-based exchanges between the continent and its diaspora. The event also featured high-level panel discussions addressing Africa’s role in an increasingly divided global landscape.

The evening concluded with a fashion show and culinary presentation, celebrating the shared heritage of African and Caribbean cultures, underscoring the ongoing connection between the continent and its diaspora.

The Afreximbank Africa Diaspora Centre aims to become a central hub for growth, providing the African diaspora with opportunities for engagement and collaboration that will shape the future of Africa.
