BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — The police are currently investigating a shooting incident that left one man hospitalized with gunshot wounds. The incident, which occurred between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Brighton, Cayon area, involved two men, Kareem Jeffers and Nicholas Johnson, both residents of Ponds Pasture.

According to an official police statement, Jeffers and Johnson were traveling down a dirt road towards the island’s main road when they came under gunfire from two assailants. Johnson, who was driving, sustained three gunshot wounds to his upper right back.

Police said both men immediately exited the vehicle and fled towards the main road, seeking help.

During the escape, Jeffers attempted to flag down a passing vehicle for assistance but was struck from behind by an oncoming car, causing him to fall. The driver stopped at the scene. Despite the incident, he managed to get back on his feet and helped Johnson reach Windsor University, where police officers met them.

An ambulance was summoned, and Johnson was transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for further medical treatment.
