BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – METEOROLOGICAL officials are keeping a close watch on a developing disturbance in the Atlantic as the 2024 Hurricane Season continues to generate activity.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that a low-pressure area, designated AL94, located over the Central Tropical Atlantic, is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
The NHC forecast suggests that the system will generally move westward, with environmental conditions potentially becoming more favorable for development by mid to late this week. A tropical depression could form as the disturbance moves west-northwest, approaching or passing near the Leeward Islands toward the end of the week.
According to the NHC outlook, the system has a 30% chance of formation within the next 48 hours and a 60% chance over the next seven days.
The Atlantic has already generated several strong storms this season, impacting parts of the Caribbean and multiple U.S. states. Residents of Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina are currently recovering from recent storm-related damage.
The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season was predicted to be above normal in terms of activity.
