....Force denies claims of missing cocaine
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) has once again addressed public concerns, this time denying allegations that cocaine has gone missing from their custody.
In response to circulating rumors, the police confirmed that officers left a small quantity of cocaine at the location where it was initially discovered. However, they “categorically denies and condemns the false and malicious reports circulating on social media alleging that a large quantity of cocaine is missing from our police exhibit room”.
The police force emphasized that the online claims are "flagrantly malicious allegations" and warned that such misinformation threatens the integrity of the country's law enforcement.
The force, already facing recent criticism for its handling of sensitive cases, reiterated that they are treating the matter seriously. According to the police, an internal investigation revealed that a “small quantity” of cocaine, seized during a search at a private residence, was inadvertently left behind.
"Following an internal investigation, it was confirmed that a small quantity of cocaine, which had been seized during the execution of a search warrant at a residence, was inadvertently left at the premises after the search. The procedural breaches revealed by the investigation have since been addressed and several disciplinary charges, including neglect of duty, were brought against the officer concerned,” the RSCNPF stated.
Police have recently become tight-lipped in publicly disclosing quantities of cocaine seized, reserving specific details for larger operations. Despite the rise in cocaine-related incidents across St. Kitts and Nevis, Assistant Commissioner of Police Travis Rogers confirmed that there is no evidence indicating that the Federation is being used as a transshipment point for narcotics.
The force reassured the public that the incident is being managed according to RSCNPF’s disciplinary protocols to ensure full accountability.
