Williams identified as homicide victim number 28

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE have identified last evening’s (Oct. 23) shooting victim in Sandy Point as 35-year-old Akeem Williams of Farms Meadows, Sandy Point.

According to police reports, the incident occurred between 6:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at a bar and grill along the island’s main road in Sandy Point.

Authorities were alerted to the shooting after gunshots were heard in the area. Upon investigating, officers discovered the victim lying motionless on the ground near a grocery store, with visible gunshot wounds.

Williams had reportedly been sitting inside the establishment when an unidentified individual approached and opened fire, striking him multiple times. Police stated that Williams tried to escape but collapsed shortly afterward and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

This incident marks the 28th homicide recorded in the Federation this year, intensifying pressure on the police force and other law enforcement agencies to address the issue.

The government and relevant agencies are working collaboratively to mitigate the impact of crime on the country's economy. As part of its strategy to combat the rising violence, the police force has implemented several measures, including stop-and-search operations and targeted search warrants in known hotspots across the two islands.

These efforts have yielded some success, with officers seizing multiple illegal firearms, ammunition, and a small quantity of cocaine in separate operations.

However, there is increasing public demand for stronger action, as citizens seek reassurance regarding crime and violence within the Federation.
