ST. JOHNS, Antigua and Barbuda – An intensive investigation has been launched in Antigua and Barbuda to bring the perpetrator(s) to justice following the murder of 54-year-old Independent Member of Parliament, Asot Michael, who was found dead, today (Nov. 5).
The news of Michael’s death sent shockwaves through the twin-island nation, with the announcement first surfacing after 8:00 a.m. Regional media quickly picked up the story, as condolences and messages of support began pouring in.
According to a police statement, investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of the MP for St. Peter's Constituency. Police reported responding to a call, discovering Michael’s body at his Dry Hill home.
“He was found with what appears to be multiple puncture wounds about his body. His body was pronounced dead at 10:10 am by a medical doctor who arrived at the scene,,” the police report stated.
Commissioner of Police Atlee Rodney assured the public that law enforcement would leverage all available resources to conduct a thorough investigation.
Following the incident, Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne expressed condolences to Michael’s family, honoring his contributions to the nation.
"It is with deep shock and sadness that I learned earlier today of the untimely passing of Asot Michael, member of Parliament for St Peter," Browne said. “The death of Asot Michael is a profound loss to his family, friends, and constituents. On behalf of the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda, I extend my sincere condolences to his son, Nigel; his sisters, Teresa-Anne and Soraya; his extended family; and the many friends who are grieving his loss."
