ST. JOHN'S, ANTIGUA – Police in St. John’s, Antigua, have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the death of Asot Michael, the Member of Parliament for St. Peter, who was found fatally stabbed at his home in Dry Hill.
According to reports from Antigua and Barbuda, police have charged 27-year-old Alexta Francis, a resident of Golden Grove, with the murder of the MP. The Antigua and Barbuda Service (ABS) reported that the charge was issued after Francis allegedly confessed to the crime.
Francis reportedly provided investigators with critical evidence and has insisted he acted alone, with no accomplices. The motive for the stabbing is expected to be revealed during upcoming court proceedings.
Francis has reportedly had prior encounters with the law, including charges of malicious damage and escaping lawful custody.
This development comes only days after the shocking murder of Michael, an independent legislator, whose death has sent shockwaves across the nation. Michael was discovered in a pool of blood in his Dry Hill home on Tuesday.
Francis is scheduled to appear in court today.
