BASSETERRE, St. Kitts—AS the government undertakes efforts to enhance the Conaree playfield, home to Sol Island Auto Conaree Football Club, several drivers have caused significant damage to a section of the playing surface, which also serves as a regional cricket venue.
Renovation work recently commenced at the facility to help it retain its status as a regional cricket venue, with upgrades planned for the stands, roof, and changing rooms.
A video circulating on social media shows drivers in two vehicles drifting on the grass, leaving visible tire tracks on the playing surface.
In a statement, Conaree FC expressed its awareness of the incident, noting the “malicious use of our playing field for leisurely activities.” The club conveyed a “strong message to the perpetrators that such acts will not be taken lightly.”
The public is reminded that this field is the home of SOL Island Auto Conaree Football Club, a pillar of the Conaree community. Club members find this incident disheartening and see it as a major setback, especially as they eagerly await the completion and opening of their new stadium.
In light of this, the club has called on the relevant authorities to help address the issue and ensure that the playing field is “swiftly restored.”
