December 3rd, 2024 -- The Alliance Française of Saint-Kitts and Nevis, with the financial support of the Embassy of France to the Eastern Caribbean States, Barbados, and the OECS, is excited to announce the launch of its new educational project, Naturally Learn French. This initiative, which runs from November 2024 to April 2025, aims to provide six months of free French language courses and cultural activities on the theme of the environment for 12 adolescents aged 11-15 years.
Naturally Learn French is designed not only to teach the French language and culture but also to instill environmental awareness and promote sustainable behaviors. This project serves as a continuation of the Alliance Française’s "Alliance Verte" initiative, supported by the Global Environment Facility’s Small Grants Program (GEF-SGP) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The program seeks to foster a connection between individuals, society, and the environment, encouraging long-term changes in attitudes toward environmental sustainability.
Each participant will benefit from weekly French language instruction, complemented by a cultural activity each month, centered around environmental themes. These hands-on activities are crafted to engage young learners in creative and meaningful ways. On Saturday, November 30th, the teenagers participated in the first activity of the program: a beach clean-up, followed by a marine biology awareness session led by Alessandra Polo, a marine biologist from the Association Blue Conscience. The event concluded with a delightful French breakfast.
Additionally, the project features digital correspondence with students from Guadeloupe, fostering cross-cultural learning and international connections. This part of the program is facilitated by the Association DJtal from Guadeloupe. The project will culminate in a special event showcasing the participants' creations and celebrating their achievements throughout the program.
Through this initiative, the Alliance Française of Saint-Kitts and Nevis aims to empower local youth with language skills, environmental knowledge, and a sense of global citizenship. By combining education with cultural exploration and environmental stewardship, Naturally Learn French offers an enriching experience for all involved.
