BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — THE police have released details about a tragic two-vehicle accident in the New Guinea area on December 11, which claimed the lives of four individuals.
The incident, which has sent shockwaves throughout the Federation, remains under investigation as the circumstances surrounding the collision are still unclear.
In a press statement, the police reported that the accident occurred on the island's main road near Brimstone Hill between 7:15 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.
Initial investigations revealed that the collision involved an omnibus carrying five passengers and a jeep with one occupant. Following the crash, emergency responders, including the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF), St. Kitts-Nevis Fire and Rescue Services, and Emergency Medical Services, arrived at the scene.
Rozina Herbert of Sandy Point, a passenger in the omnibus, and Dijorn Davis of Old Road, the jeep's driver, were transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital. Herbert succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival, while Davis passed away following emergency surgery for extensive injuries.
Two other victims—Ian Jules of St. Paul’s, the jeep’s passenger, and Belinda Paul of Sandy Point, an omnibus passenger—were pronounced dead at the scene.
Another omnibus passenger remains in the Intensive Care Unit, while one passenger is being treated in the Surgical Ward for minor injuries. Jamie Herbert, the omnibus driver, and an additional passenger were treated for minor injuries and have since been discharged.
